Introduction

My name is Kimberly Chobanian and I’m currently a nursing student with a minor in adult education attending Alverno College. One of the classes I’m enrolled in is Microbiology which requires us to write a blog on a topic learned in class. My blog explores the world of bioremediation of environmental contaminants, specifically oil spills. Bioremediation is the use of microbes to detoxify or degrade pollutants. I've learned that bioremediation is a vast and growing subject which more people should pay attention too. The world’s population is continuously growing and so is the garbage we make. Bioremediation looks at ways to help reduce our carbon footprints and try to restore some of Earth’s beautiful environments.
